Legal definition

Under the Modern Slavery Act 2015 – Statutory Guidance, accepting or taking physical custody or control of another person as part of the trafficking process, for the purpose of exploitation. The Act lists “receiving” as an act that forms part of trafficking where exploitation is involved.


What it looks like in real life
  • A person being passed between individuals, groups, or locations. 

  • Someone arriving already frightened, controlled, or dependent. 

  • A new person stepping in to continue exploitation or control.
