Legal definition
While the Modern Slavery Act (2015) does not separately define grooming, UK criminal law recognises grooming (especially of children) as behaviour intended to prepare someone for abuse or exploitation.
What it looks like in real life
Being treated as “special,” given gifts, money, jobs, or attention.
Someone slowly crossing boundaries while pretending it’s normal.
Creating emotional or financial dependence.
Isolating someone from support, or making them feel chosen and protected.
